A tradition of excellence
Saramac Inc. is the logical result of the A. Croteau & Son Company, a masonry company, founded in 1942 by Mr Armand Croteau.
This family firm was regarded as one of the most important company within the Montréal area with more than 225 employees. In 1965, Marcel Croteau, the founder's son, took over the business of A. Croteau & Son Company.
In 1969, while carrying on the firm's expansion, Marcel Croteau, took an active interest in prefinished material. He was convinced that this building method could provide a large range of interesting products and above all, a quick way to fulfill exterior claddings.
As a masonry expert, Marcel Croteau was very aware of the harshnesses, and constraints linked to this building method, specially in the matter of climatic conditions and deadlines. Produced in factory under rigorous standards, the precast concrete by itself eliminates the inconveniences and opens up the way to new opportunities.
Between 1970 and 1975, Marcel Croteau developed a prefinished concept based on masonry components, that is, producing brick panels in factory made of bricks as a finished product and Sarabound, a polymer based mortar. The name Saramac comes from:
SARA for Sarabound, the polymer mortar and MAC for masonry.
In 1977, the A. Croteau company reorientation led to the founding of Saramac in Lachenaie (Québec, Canada). By offering brick panels, which was a brand new concept at this time, the firm stood out from the others since its founding. Few years later, Saramac's role in precast concrete was well established and success was not long to come.
Saramac's products are mainly used for exterior claddings applied on commercial, industrial and institutional buildings.
Since the beginning, the company's directors along with it's personnel, never stopped to reinvest in the modernization of its manufacturing facility. This reflects the company's concerns to be and stay in the forefront of the concrete industry.
"Until now, the company has received numerous acknowledgments from the Concrete industry. Saramac has a very good reputation which is based on the quality of the delivered products, respect of deadlines and an exceptional customer service."
Throughout the years, Saramac has become a reference source for architects and engineers. The company is also continuously renewing its efforts in research and development.
Saramac is known as a reliable partner. Project after project, the company has shown its know-how in the very complex world of the architectural and structural non-prestressed precast concrete.
